Why are the farmers of North India so furious with the Government?

Jai Jawaan, Jai Kisaan

We all have been hearing this since our childhood but I personally feel that majorly their issues are suppressed at times by the government or media. That’s the reason the common man has to head towards the roads for their protests regarding their demands.

“Save the farms, Save the mandis”

The farmers are protesting with this Banner. The most affected by the new farm reforms will be the APMC mandis of the State Government and the farmers.

The Centre Government is propagating, “ONE NATION, ONE TRADE” through their new reforms. It’s good if we view it digitally and globally but the thing simplified is that if a farmer lives somewhere in Mohali, Punjab; he doesn’t think of going to Ludhiana, Punjab to sell his crop. Then, is it practical to think that they’ll go to Banglore for the same just an example.

The Centre says the middle men will be eliminated whereas the reality is that the middle men will be changed may be in the form of private companies or so. The government ensures that other countries are already following this system and some Indian states like Maharashtra, Bihar and Karnataka have already done the Farm reforms. When we compare it with the American and European countries then we must realize that the agriculture income in these countries has already failed. In France, the increase in suicide rate for farmers has been observed. The farmers here in North India fear of not getting the MSP( Minimum Support Price) after the reforms which seems quite real. Though in India the MSP is fixed by the government for only 22 crops but it is for sure that these crops cannot be sold below this price. The price of all other crops is discovered through the production, supply and demand method. This MSP method also has it’s own disadvantages. As we all know that the cost of growing the crops is obviously different in different parts of India still the MSP for the crops is fixed as same for the whole country.

Farmers are hugely concerned about the MSP as it seems that the MSP will be phased out byn  the new laws which allow them to sell directly to corporate and even undertake contract farming. The new reforms aim to fix the Indian farming granting the freedom of choice to farmers by involving Mega Corporates in the agricultural supply chain to reduce wastage and improve the price stability.

Yet these laws are getting so much resistance not only from the State government, opposition parties, other people involved but also from the farmer population who is actually being promised to be benefitted. Here’s a survey by A billion things to do, a Social Media Agency of Chandigarh to hear the Voice of India.
