Government banned Fairness creams

The people in our country and across the world have been comparing the complexions of their children or children of their brother or sisters or even friends and extended families. All these conversations are when heard by the innocent children they are dragged into the competition of making themselves fair.

Any advertisements or endorsements by famous people of course help these children to achieve their needs. If someone says that the brands endorsing their products for fair skin are fake and unfair because they promote beauty in an awful manner. This is the truth.

All the fairness products are believed to be fake as our skin tone can be changed a bit with good diet, good hormones, age factor and physical fitness. But no fairness product can change a dark person into a fair complexion person. It’s all genetic. The real beauty is that of the soul. If your mind is strong and your soul is pure in thoughts, words and actions, you are really the most beautiful. You can strengthen your mind by reading inspirational quotes about life or success and failure stories.

Nandita Das, an Indian actress once said “We keep saying things like Uska rang saaf hai, as if dark skin is dirty thing. This mindset is then propagated in our songs, stories and movies.” She is actually right in my opinion. I also heard a story like this from my cousins during my childhood. Three of my cousins were at my place during the summer vacations and we were playing, it was the time of dividing teams for the game. The two very fair held each other’s hand and said that we will be in one team because we are fair and you two will be in another team. I yelled and said what is all this nonsense. Then the most fair one said we don’t even talk to children in our class who are not fair. These type of creepy things also happen related to the complexion issues.

All these small talks and small mentality about dark and fair complexion creates a huge market for the fake products which endorse fairness as their motto. I know it’s the world of manipulation and misinformation but at least the health products must be spared from this.

Dr. S.R.Sukumar, a skin care specialist, says that using fairness and other dubious skin care products is very harmful for health. These products have steroids which cause more harm than good. He also appreciated the governments step to ban fairness cream advertisements.

We have been using complexion as the parameter of beauty since so long. Now, it’s time to change. Many Bollywood celebrities like Taapsee Pannu and Dia Mirza embraced the step by the government very beautifully. Taapsee Pannu says that there’s no standard of beauty. It is a very personal choice of a human being to look the way he or she wants to. She hopes now people will stop buying these fairness creams.

Dia Mirza took a stand and said that our advertisement choices should also evolve in the right direction and ensure that they don’t promote falsehood. Though earlier actors like Sharukh Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Yami Gautam, John Abraham and Alia Bhatt have endorsed fairness and lightness creams. Now, their choices for advertisements will definitely evolve. This amendment by the Health and Family Welfare Ministry declares a fine upto Rs. 50 lakh and jail term upto five years. More details may be found out within 45 days from the issue of this notice. Hopefully this false sense of beauty endorsement will now come to an end.
