How to Control Perfectionism

Delete should from your vocabulary.
Motivational quotes make perfectionists talk and think about what they must be doing instead of what they are doing, or what they must do or never do. These types of absolutes set you up for natural failure.
•            Instead of saying I should be working on next month's assignment instead of sitting out here in the park, permit yourself some time to relax and schedule some work time for later.

Delete using black-and-white language. Perfectionists set up a layer in which the only possible results are either failure or perfection with no middle ground. This makes it impossible to attain an aim with a few inevitable flaws and makes you feel unsuccessful even when you accomplish a project to someone else's satisfaction.
•            Add words like good enough or acceptable to your vocabulary and apply them when evaluating projects and results.

Don't view everything in catastrophic terms. Perfectionists tend to develop the worst-case phase in regards to failure. They'll talk stuff like If I don't get this just right, every person will hate me or Every human will see that I'm not cut out for this job. When you feel this manner, try to balance matters out with some best-case images.
•            For instance, talk to yourself If I mess up this chunk, we'll all have a smile and move on, based on what you've identified when others have done the same thing.

List your accomplishments every week, day, year, and month. Every evening, pen down at least one matter you master that day, no matter how boring: I emptied out my junk drawer in the coffee room. Does your client even observe that your report is a bit less detailed than normal? Does your faculty seem aware that you didn't re-write your chemistry formulas to make your work look neater?
•            And, even if persons do notice, are they bothered by it at all? As long as you're fulfilling the essential requirements of the assignment, the answer will almost always be no.

Leave others' tasks unfinished instead of taking them on. Perfectionists often feel the requirement to take on others' workflow to make certain it is done right as well, even if they're already overworked with their own assignment. Resist this urge, and notice what happened — it will probably be one of the following-
•            The other human will complete the project to an acceptable level.
•            The other human will do an unacceptable job and do face the consequences.
•            The job won't get done and no one will seem to love all that much.

Giving Your Perfectionism an Honest Assessment
Make a note of what you're giving up in your quest for perfection.

Compare your work and others fairly and equally. Perfectionists often suffer from one (and sometimes both) of the following issues when dealing with another person: they demand far more of themselves than they do others, or they can't trust others to do a perfect enough job and should do it themselves.
•            If you accept the impossible from yourself but not others, envision someone else doing the same task you're doing. Would they have to be either failure or perfect, or could they do a good enough job? If so, why can't you?

Get outside help if your perfectionism has coiled out of control. Perfectionism, at its most extreme, can be a symptom of OCD or mental health issues. If you experience one or more of the following, it might be time to talk to a licensed mental health professional or your doctor:
•            Things must be "perfect" because, if they aren't, very worst things will occur.
•            Things left not perfect cause you serious anxiety.
•            The nature of your perfectionism is causing a disruption to the routine life cycle.
•            If you ever emotion like harming yourself as a deserved self-punishment for your non-success, seek help right away.

Working Toward a Reasonable Goal

Forgive yourself for your shortcomings. No one is perfect, and everyone has weaknesses and strengths. That's not to say you should not try to progress. You can always grasp something new or try to improve, but there are times when you'll have to go with what you already understand and do what you can based on that. Don't waste energy worrying about what you can't (yet) do.

Define your aim for the current task. Concentrate on what is really required. Is the real purpose to produce a perfect result or to be perfect, or is it to get something done? What really works.
•            Knowing what you require to attain not only supports you go in the right direction, it also assists you to know when you are finished.
•            Make certain to break up your aim ladder into manageable tasks to ignore becoming overwhelmed by them. For example, if your aim is to lose weight, then focus on losing 4 pounds at a time or exercise regularly rather than on your overall weight loss aim.
