The Premier League, frequently refer to outside the UK as the English Premier League, or some days the EPL, is the high degree of the English football league system. Challenged by 20 clubs, it runs on a structure of relegation and promotion with the English Football League (EFL). Seasons run from August to May with every team playing 38 matches (playing all 19 other teams both home and away). Most games are played on Sunday and Saturday afternoons.
On 20 February 1992, the competitiveness was established as the FA Premier League following the settlement of clubs in the Football League First Division to shatter away from the Football League, founded in 1888, and take additional benefit of a lucrative television rights deal. The league is a firm that gives rise to €2.2 billion per year in international and domestic television rights. In 2016–17, Clubs with a further £343 million in unanimity payments to English Football League (EFL) clubs were dispersed central payment revenues of £2.4 billion.
Broadcast in 212 territories to 643 million households and a potential TV audience of 4.7 billion people, the Premier League is the most-watched sports league on the planet. The average Premier League match presence was at 38,181, for the 2018–19 season, second to the Bundesliga's 43,500, while combined presence across all matches is the highest of any league at 14,508,981. Most stadium occupancies are close capacity. Only behind Spain's La Liga, The Premier League ranks second in the UEFA coefficients of leagues based on performances in European competitions over the past five seasons as of 2021. In 1992, Forty-nine clubs have participated since the formation of the Premier League: forty-seven English and two Welsh clubs. Seven of them have won the title: Chelsea (5), Manchester United (13), Arsenal (3), Manchester City (4), Blackburn Rovers (1), Liverpool (1), and Leicester City (1).
