Headquartered in Tokyo, Sony India, based in New Delhi, is the Indian subordinate of Japan's Sony Corporation. Sony Group Corporation commonly familiar as Sony and is a Japanese multinational conglomerate corporation headquartered in Tokyo. The company operates as one of the world's largest manufacturers of professional and consumer of electronic products, the largest video game publisher, the largest video game console company, the largest music company, the third-largest film studio, as well as one of the most comprehensive media companies.
In India, Sony has its footmark across all major cities and towns in the nation through a distribution network of over 23 direct branch locations, 10,400 dealers and distributors, and 270 exclusive Sony outlets. Moreover, Sony's 19 sales branches support a total of 450 cities. It has also created a network of 270 Sony Center and established 30 warehouses across the nation to control its supply chain effectively.
In the United States, Europe, Japan, China and India, Sony presently has global software development facilities. Among these, Sony India Software Centre (SISC), situated in Bengaluru—India’s Silicon Valley—has enlarged notably in recent years. Confirmed in 1997, SISC serves as a development foundation for software utilized in a wide range of products assembled by Sony Group companies around the globe as the Group’s global offshore IT centre. SISC is rapidly augmenting its team of engineers with the role of software taking on ever-greater importance in this digitized age. SISC work contributed to efforts of the entire Sony Group to advance state-of-the-art 3D technologies, as well as to the development of new products, including Android-based mobile phones, Sony Internet TV, and Sony Tablet and other devices. As the Group’s strategic offshore IT centre, they worked together with Sony Group companies with the goal of strengthening the Group’s operating foundation.
In early 2012, Sony Corp restructured its India business by developing two separate units, one for undertaking marketing and sales operations, headquartered in New Delhi and the other for concentrating on product and software development based in Bengaluru. As a result, Sony India Software Centre was a divergence from Sony India Pvt. Ltd. as a different entity aiming at more effectual operations.
